From your partner in men’s ministry
Greetings Men of God,
First, I would like to acknowledge that my recent election to the General Commission on UM Men is an honor and a wonderful opportunity to be in ministry with men who are called to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We have a dedicated staff led by our General Secretary, the Rev. David Adams. It is evident that this commission is made up of men and women who love God and are dedicated to men’s ministry throughout the world.
Second, I would remind us that we are here on earth to make a difference. The Bible teaches us that we are to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28). My father made a difference in my life and in the community where he served God through the church. I watched him manage a large staff, start new businesses and most of all, serve in the church as lay leader for more than two decades. Before joining his Sunday class he would make care calls to members in his class. Every Wednesday night I knew––after hard days of work––I could find my father at Pleasant Grove Methodist Episcopal Church where the Methodist men gathered to grow stronger in the Lord and to make plans to be in mission. I saw my father bow before God for his morning prayers and now I do the same.
Men of God, we are here to make a difference. Your time, experience and resources are witnessing instruments that can be used to help some man or boy come to Christ. I ask you to make a fresh commitment to work in Men’s ministry for a Christ like world.
Remember men, God’s will for us is good. We must do the rest.
Bishop James King, president
General Commission on UM Men
